Life is looking up.

You may have noticed; I have been feeling a little under the weather lately. Life in general has been getting me down and therefore my head has been hung a little low and I am not my usual chipper self. Someone here at work (which tends to be the den of downer people) even noticed that my smile was missing this morning. (don't worry, when he said that I put it back where it belonged) With all this sickness and depression that is going around a lot of people just like me have their heads hung low. And once you get like this it is hard to recover.

The more we look down the deeper we dive into depression and sadness. We begin to think about being down and we sink even deeper into our pit of sadness and self pity. Depression can lead to sickness and sickness leads to more depression.

News flash:

The problem is that we are looking in the wrong place; Look up, not down. The devil wants us to look down. He can make us feel really bad about ourselves when things are getting tough. He’s pretty smart. He knows how to make us feel bad and keep us feeling bad. He wants us to keep looking down (away from God). He knows that God can heal us so he doesn’t want us looking up. So what are we going to do about it?

Look up that’s what!

Psalm 121

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

Have a great day and keep looking to God for answers.

  1. Great post, Greg. Once at a writting convention I attended the speaker said whatever you are writing about for God, the devil will attack. Writing on Godly marriage? Prepare for marriage problems. Godly parenting? Kids will stray.

    Your new blog is called happiness. How did the devil attack you? He tried to take yours. Keep your eyes on the prize and don't let the devil get you down. Your post is right on! Look up!

    Thanks for the encouragement.

  2. The word verification for the post I just wrote was HOGette!!!! I will try not to take it personally!

  3. Greg,

    Just praying for you while you are at work that you will continue to be such a light that shines there that others will notice and want what you have deep inside.

    Love and Hugs ~ Kat

    Hey what do you know my word verfication is sunce? Notice the word sun in it?

  4. A true blessing that you know where to look and are trying to look there. Chin up! You can do it.

    The devil is a lowlife, he slithers around in the dirt. His middle name is Downer. So. You're right. Don't go there.

    I love the Psalm you quoted here.

  5. I'm looking up today here:))) Glad you are better:)

  6. I love your outlook Greg. You would be a great person to hang out with because of the way you encourage the looking at and for the bright side.

    Psalm 121 spoke to my heart. Thanks for listening to God and posting this.

    Praying for you too.

  7. Glad you're looking up again Greg. I would say I fight that temptation to look down too, but would rather say I "yield" to the invitation to look up.

  8. Good post Greg! Remember that saying, "Don't be so heavenly minded that you're no earthly good?" So wrong! We must be heavenly minded so that we can do some earthly good. What better way to stay happy?

  9. It's true, once you start looking downward and focusing on the negative, the negative you shall get. It's when you take the time to seek God that you find Him and newfound strength and joy!

    Great post, my friend!
